Welcome
Welcome To The Sunday
House -
a charming late 1920's cottage located in Historic
Mineola! Sunday houses were so named, because farmers and
ranchers in Texas often kept a small house in town for the
family's comfort when they traveled into town for supplies
and to observe the Sabbath.
Mineola, a National Main Street City, is known for its preserved
Main Street, antique stores, unique restaurants, Bed and Breakfasts,
Museum, renovated train depot and friendly people! Lake Fork
and Lake Holbrook are just two of the many nearby lakes. A
3,000 acre Mineola Preserve on the Sabine River, has just
opened south of the City. Mineola is designated the "Birding
Capital of East Texas" and currently 210 different species
have been identified.
For a new "old adventure", arrive in Mineola by
train! Amtrak stops in Mineola twice daily, and The Sunday
House is just 9 blocks north of downtown Mineola, and is a
1 1/2 hour drive east of Dallas, or West of Shreveport, La.
As you arrive at The Sunday House, you will be delighted with
the beautiful cascade of annually blooming pink roses on the
front porch of the house. The back yard is beautifully landscaped,
with tables and chairs on the patio. (In the yard, you will
find a free flowing yard of)The yard is filled with free flowing
perennials and annuals, and contains a small gold fish pond.
Early in the morning while drinking coffee the sounds of the
birds are glorious.
The parlor/dining area in the front room is filled with, eclectic
collections, and a "Gone With The Wind" theme and
memorabilia.Vintage crocheted pieces accent the comfortable
sofas and chairs.
The front bedroom which has a beautiful queen-sized bed (topped
with a feather bed), is decorated with an angel motif. Angels
"abound" that came from friends and family.
There is a single large bath, with an adjoining room containing
a dressing table. A fully equipped kitchen including a microwave,
refrigerator, stove, coffee pot and other appliances is for
your use. A washer and dryer are also available for guest's
use.
The back bedroom has a garden theme, with its picked-fence
and birdhouse headboard for the queen-sized bed (topped with
a feather bed). This is the main bedroom with a small sitting
area. One of the small sofas makes a twin bed. The room includes
a T.V. and VCR, with a collection of classic tapes for your
viewing pleasure. The T.V. cabinet also holds a stack of beautifully
homemade quilts.
The Sunday House is a wonderful base for exploring East Texas.
Canton's First Monday Trades Day is a short 30 minutes drive
as well as Tyler's renowned Spring Azalea Trails, and it's
Fall Rose Festival.
